BENCHMARKS – A RANDOM COLLECTION
SHERBORNE ABBEY, DORSET
PAUL, CORNWALL
RIVER DOVE, nr HARTINGTON, DERBYSHIRE
The river was in flood, annoyingly because I was meant to be fishing that day. As compensation, there was an attractive cut stone stile / gate near the bank, with a rather worn benchmark on the right-hand stone. With the simple and effective bridge, it made a pleasant place to be, if one ignored the torrent of brown water pouring down Dovedale.
CHISWICK HOUSE LONDON (SOUTH GATE)
ST MICHAEL’S CHURCH, LITLINGTON, EAST SUSSEX
