This sequence shows a pair of Ringed Teal preening in late autumn sunshine. The series of images shows the movements of both birds and the marked variations in the colouring of the male over a few minutes. At one stage the vivid green sheen of the wings gave way to dark blue. I was also trying to use the water behind them to create an impressionistic effect, which has worked in a way.
I’d say, it worked very well indeed, RH! You have given the gorgeous birds a perfect background to present themselves in all their beauty. It’s hard to pick a favourite, love them all! 🙂

Why thank you Dina! I was quite pleased with those. Mind you, a sunny day does wonders for photo technique! They were lovely to watch. RH

The green silk effect of the water is really effective as a backdrop for the teals. They look as if they belong on some Chinese silk embroidery. amelia

I like ‘green silk’. That dignifies what was a rather unattractive piece of water! And I quite see what you mean about the Chinese silk embroidery, I hadn’t looked at the ducks that way. I’m never sure if that blurry background effect is what is meant by ‘bokeh’, nor whether ‘bokeh’ implies a stylish or a disappointing photo!
